Christmas in Iraq
Dear Family and Friends:
Christmas in Iraq was very special. All of the cookies from the Churches in El Paso arrived prior to Christmas. The soldiers loved them! Thanks to all of the churches in El Paso who have adopted and supported 4/1 Cav. The cookies were handed out to soldiers in various ways. On Christmas Eve Day the Brigade Commander and I flew to remote spots to visit soldiers. We shared the cookies with these soldiers. On Christmas Eve, the Chaplains held a candlelight worship service. Following the service we served cookies again. The candlelight service was attended by 300 soldiers and civilians on our Forward Operating Base. On Christmas Eve Day the Brigade Commander and I also had dinner with Iraqi Army Soldiers. We were served a plate of rice with lamb. It was actually very good. We mixed the lamb, rice and vegetables into a pita. Finally, on Christmas morning, the Brigade Commander and I, along with Santa, visited the rooms of our soldiers. We wished each of them a Merry Christmas and left a bag of homemade cookies.
I would ask that you look at our unit blog site. The address is: www.elpasotmes.com. You must then click on “military” and then click on “Long Knife Legend” blog. You can then see pictures of our soldiers celebrating Christmas in Iraq.
