DEALING WITH JESUS (3 of 3)
|
Nor did the enemies of Jesus mistake His claim to deity. In John 10:33 they accused Him of blaspheming because “You make Yourself out to be God.” When Jesus was interrogated, the high priest demanded, “Tell us whether You are the Christ, the Son of God.” Jesus replied, "Yes, it is as you say. And in the future you will see me, the Son of Man, sitting at God's right hand in the place of power and coming back on the clouds of heaven" (Matthew 26:64 NLT). Immediately Jesus was censured for blasphemy by the high priest and sent to the cross. Religion has always been uneasy dealing with Jesus.
Attacks against the deity of Christ are nothing new. Paul warned of serious, even delusional, consequences for those who willfully reject truth: “For this reason God will send upon them a deluding influence so that they might believe what is false” (2 Thessalonians 2:11). As I grow older I am more impressed in each passing year with the durability of truth. These recent attacks will do nothing to destroy truth. Tragically, however, they will destroy the faith of many who have succumbed to these “deluding influences.”
One day we will have a personal encounter with the eternal Son of God. On that day any questions regarding His nature or authority will be forever silenced. God “has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a Man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead” (Acts 17:31).
Once again Jonathan Edwards cuts through the fog: “Now if you refuse to accept Him, is God therefore unjust if He does not save you? Is He obliged to save you in a way of your own choosing, because you do not like the way of His choosing? Or will you charge Christ with injustice because He does not become your Savior, when at the same time you will not have Him when He offers Himself to you, and beseeches you to accept of Him as your Savior?”
Jesus – eternal, God, Man, Savior, King, Judge. And if you will receive Him, Friend.
Deal with it.
